DFW logistics workers are laid off because of 'unexpected' Amazon warehouse closure

A last-mile delivery company will lay off 55 employees in Arlington next month after Amazon abruptly ended a contract, according to a state filing.

Dallas-based Southern Star Express LLC informed the Texas Workforce Commission of the layoffs in a WARN Act notice on Aug. 24. The company contracted with Amazon as a delivery service partner for the online retailing giant's warehouse at 2400 Centennial Dr. in Arlington. Amazon informed Southern Star Express on Aug. 23 that it had ended the contract.
