Full job description

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full time Biomed Engineer, Intermediate to support the 3D Printing Program at UPMC Presbyterian campus. This position will work Monday through Friday daylight hours (pager call for urgent 3D printing cases) with occasional travel to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (2-3 times a month).

This role will be overseeing and creating patient-specific 3D printed anatomic models and surgical tools, and 3D Printing related engineering projects including novel medical devices Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing 3D Printing Program Associate Engineering staff and determining work schedules
  • Managing workflow in the design, production, and delivery of patient-specific anatomic models and establishing priorities
  • Drafting and reviewing QMS documentation
  • Managing the design, production, and delivery of patient-specific surgical guides
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with referring physicians and staff to process anatomic models and surgical guide requests
  • Maintaining relationships with external vendors and suppliers
  • Implementing new technologies and training staff
  • Identifying and leading innovative research projects within the 3D Printing Program
  • Participating in the design, testing, manufacturing, and implementation of novel medical devices
  • Masters or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Biomedical, or other related Engineering field
    • OR actively enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. program with completion within 3 years of transfer or hire AND 2+ years of experience in medical device development/additive manufacturing.
    • OR Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or other related Engineering field AND 4+ years of experience in medical device development/additive manufacturing.
  • Prior experience with medical 3D printing, including anatomic models and surgical guides
  • Previous experience with Quality Management Systems in medical device development including 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well, both orally and in written form.
  • Preferred: Ability to work independently in software platforms used for post processing of medical imaging data such as Materialise Mimics Innovation Suite An in-depth understanding of human anatomy. Previous experience working within Quality Management Systems including drafting work instructions, standard operating procedures, and IQ/OQ/PQ documents. Prior experience leading projects with cross-functional teams Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
