Who would choose to continue working without getting a break from it every now and then? The truth is that a good break from work can actually refresh your mind and make you more productive upon your return. To help you navigate this terrain, we’ve compiled some information on the 2022 & 2023 Federal Holidays and the pay policies.
Federal Holiday Policies
According to the Federal Government, employees get 11 paid holidays every year. If one of these federal holidays falls on a weekend, it can be observed on Friday (if it falls on a Sunday) or Monday (if it falls on a Saturday). Your State and local laws could be different, and you can check those with the Department of Labor.
In the private sector, employers often provide these federal holidays, but the pay options are up to their discretion. That means these holidays could be paid, unpaid, or paid for working on a holiday. Private companies aren’t legally required to close for federal holidays or to compensate employees with PTO.
