RingCentral cuts staff at Bay Area headquarters, citing 'changing business needs'

Bay Area cloud communications giant RingCentral plans to lay off 50 employees at its headquarters offices in Belmont, the company revealed in a notice this week.

The publicly traded technology company (NYSE: RNG) wrote in the public filing that "changing business needs require us to reduce our workforce at the facility permanently." The layoffs, in two rounds of 25 at its facility located at 20 Davis Drive, will be effective Sept. 18 and Sept. 25.

"This was a result of making choices on where to invest to maximize impact, drive for greater efficiency, and optimize for growth," a RingCentral represenative said via email. "We have a team of more than 700 people locally and no plans to leave the Bay Area."
