Commitment Is Essential for Doing What Matters

Commitment Is Essential for Doing What Matters

One of the most important factors that differentiate those who succeed in achieving their goals from those who fail, is commitment. Two elements contribute to the process of commitment: importance and capacity. To be able to commit to a goal you need to believe in the importance of that goal in your life and be convinced that you have the capacity to execute whatever is required to accomplish that goal.

Commitment is essential when it comes to doing something that matters. For starters, you need to understand that not everything is going to move as planned. There is every possibility for unexpected challenges to cross your path when you set out to achieve something that matters to you. Of course, when we face challenges or delays, it is human nature to become angry and get caught up in thoughts of failure.

Here is what you can do to stick to your commitments and eventually, achieve your goals.

Be true to what you believe in

When you initially start working on your goal, you would know exactly which path to pursue. But after a while, what was once crystal clear to you might turn into a haze. But that does not mean it is time to abandon your goal. Always keep your eyes on the target. If the way things were done earlier is no longer working the way they should, be bold enough to do things differently, even if it requires you to challenge the status quo. Do what you need to do in a responsible manner and without slandering or inflicting harm on others. Be true to what you believe in, all the while sticking to your own distinctive style.

Reset your goals

Nothing is more destructive than the anger and utter disappointment you feel when in spite of working hard, there is zero progress in achieving your goals. When you're uncertain, make a commitment to finding your way back. Return to that core passion behind your original goal. When you are back to the "why" behind what you're doing, you will be able to reset your goals. Jot down your goals and the path you are choosing to achieve them. Everything will be far clearer when you record them. You will also be more determined to achieve your goals when you have placed them where you can see them every day.

Develop long-term goals

Uncertainty isn't your destination. Goals give you a sense of direction and a key part of changing your priorities is to rethink or create new goals for the future. Setting out to reach your long-term goals provides you with insight into the small goals that need to be accomplished in order to achieve those big goals. Your long-term goals are the benchmarks that you must have in front of you to keep you focused. Long-term goals inspire optimism and inspire you to take the right direction. The closer you come to the small goals, the more determined you will be in achieving the main big goal.

Make a difference and turn terrors into triumphs

Whenever you experience pain there is a lesson to be learned from it. That’s when you improve and move on. Be aware that things can change. In times of uncertainty, you need to remain unaffected, focused and determined to advance your career, changing your direction and getting to where you want to be with renewed enthusiasm and motivation. The uncertain time is not an ideal time to slow down or feel defeated. It is a good idea to inquire whether you're on the right path. It is important to do this frequently since asking questions stimulates new ideas. When you can respond to these kinds of questions you are less likely to be distracted.

Imagine what you want to be

What's your idea of how a person like yourself might handle difficult and tense times in their professional life? Make sure you are able to hold on to your vision and apply that concept in your own life. Be a good person. Learn to be able to control yourself in a thoughtful manner. The act of rushing and avoidance both represent anxiety, impulsivity and fear. If you're moving to the next stage, it is important to take it slowly and with a feeling of having completed the stage you're currently in.

Make sure you take care of yourself

When you embark on an endeavor that is worthwhile, it is essential to commit to regaining your strength repeatedly. Make it a point to care for yourself, pamper yourself and make yourself your top priority, especially if you've worked in a position of support for a long time. If the world around you is exhausting, take a step back and relax. Every great warrior needs to rest. Resting does not mean to stop or give up; it is about refueling.

Take the long way

There isn't a quick route to success. Don't take shortcuts. Do not lie, cheat or steal to climb the ladder to success. Be honest and work with integrity and perseverance. The harder you work to succeed, the more benefits you will reap, especially in relation to your reputation. Those who choose devious ways to get ahead might rise quickly but their downfall will be fatal. Do not compare yourself to others. Believe in your actions enough to commit to your own success by having an unwavering belief in your goals.

Keep a clear view

Make a commitment to not be in a negative frame of mind continuously. Naturally, your road to success can last much longer than a day. Uncertain circumstances are inevitable and are only a moment in time when you are on the road to achieving your goals. Success, just like every other thing in life, fluctuates. Don't let a short experience of a difficult time affect your outlook and character. The downtimes will increase your grit later, so it is your responsibility to be better than you were instead of turning bitter.

The moment is now

There is no reason to sit around waiting for success to happen. Don’t sit back for it to be handed over to you. You must go out and take it. If you're just beginning your journey, trying to reach your goals to be part of the winner’s club or you're already at the executive level and would like to climb the corporate ladder, put in your one hundred percent best efforts. The quality of your work and how you conduct yourself with others is what is required right now to take you higher to the next level.
