It's an opportunity to do your life's best work.(sm) The Senior Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for developing - implementing and supporting reporting - analytics and business intelligence solutions to meet the information needs of Optum and its Care Delivery Organizations. The Business Intelligence Developer will be experienced with the Microsoft BI stack (SSRS/SSAS) and willing to adapt to emerging cloud reporting technologies (Snowflake/Power BI). This person will be adept at translating business requirements into production reports and have a solid understanding of advanced T-SQL concepts. This person will play a key role on the BI team while consistently producing high-quality deliverables with careful attention to detail. She or he should have 4 years of business intelligence and reporting experience - a proven track record of success and a passion for technology and applying technology to real business problems. Experience with - and knowledge of - healthcare data and software is an ideal component of success in this role. This position reports to the Reporting & Business Intelligence Manager. Primary Responsibilities: Consistently exhibit behavior and communication skills demonstrating Optum s commitment to superior customer service - including quality - care and concern with each and every internal and external customer Design and develop Business Intelligence (BI) solutions using the Microsoft platform: SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) - SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) - SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) - Power BI and SharePoint Establish and maintain solid working relationships with key business partners to ensure reporting and compliance requirements are well-understood and re-usable deliverables are produced on time Create - maintain and enhance operational and application SSRS reports based on business requirements Develop and maintain T-SQL stored procedures - functions - tables - etc. Produce aesthetically pleasing informative scorecards/dashboards/visuals using Power BI/Tableau/etc. Develop Extraction - Transformation and Loading (ETL) processes to acquire and load data from internal and external sources Be an effective listener who facilitates requirements gathering from non-technical business personnel Apply solid testing skills with a high attention to detail for accuracy Participate in agile development sprints to review and prioritize backlogs - identify and resolve impediments - plan releases - etc. Prioritize multiple tasks effectively and communicate progress well among teams Mentor others on a wide range of reporting - analytic and database techniques Contribute skills and knowledge to other projects as directed by management Analyze & create technical design documents - and performs impact analysis Use - protect - and disclose patients protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards Perform other relevant job duties as assigned No supervisory responsibility Job consists of unique and multi-dimensional work situations with occasional variations from the norm. Job involves a moderate degree of complexity. Incumbent is responsible for working with Reporting/Analytics/Data management teams to confirm data from multiple sources is pulled correctly for the use it is intended. Duties are performed independently with minimal supervision and working with other Analysts verifying results and methodologies. Decisions are made within established departmental guidelines - but also by using judgment for the best reasonable outcome. Position has high visibility to Senior Leadership and Executives through reporting. Errors in judgment or work performance could result in insufficient operation for the organization. Required Qualifications: Bachelor s degree or higher in Computer Science - Information Management or similar - and/or equivalent professional experience 4 years of experience building and executing data pulls using SQL and/or other BI reporting tools; with experience manipulating/combining data from multiple sources to provide actionable information - preferably in the healthcare insurance industry 4 years: T-SQL 4 years: Reporting Services or Power BI Report Server Preferred Qualifications: Snowflake/Power BI/Tableau/SSAS/SSIS experience Experience building Reports - Scorecards and Dashboards w/ tools such as Power BI or Tableau Experience with designing and developing SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports Solid T-SQL programming skills (including complex subqueries - correlated queries - nested queries - functions - etc.) Client-facing presence and excellent business acumen Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) Deep understanding of database management systems - online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract - transform - load) framework Knowledge of software development - QA methodologies and release process Good project/time management and teamwork skills Knowledge of healthcare industry and healthcare-specific interface formats (e.g. HL7 FHIR) Driven by a fast-paced - energetic - results-oriented environment Self-starter and able to work independently Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative To protect the health and safety of our workforce - patients and communities we serve - UnitedHealth Group and its affiliate companies require all employees to disclose COVID-19 vaccination status prior to beginning employment. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72 - 800 to $129 - 900.
