Job Description

NREL's Information Technology Services (ITS) Office supports all major IT functions for the Laboratory including the design, development, deployment, maintenance, and upgrade of IT capabilities, infrastructure, and investments, as well as maintaining cyber security.

As a DevOps Engineer at NREL, you will bring a depth of knowledge in DevOps CI/CD and wide general knowledge of applications and operating system administration. With a constant focus on process improvement and automation, you will partner and work closely with the development, QA, platform, cyber security and operations teams to ensure NREL applications are built, patched, deployed, and configured in a timely manner. The DevOps Engineer is responsible for implementation and tuning of the software delivery and testing platforms. You will participate in designing platform requirements with the development teams, and will contribute to the overall design and implementation of the evolving solution delivery frameworks.

General day to day duties will include:

  • Implementation of Automation within CI/CD process
  • Troubleshooting server/container/application issues
  • Assist with provisioning of dev/test/prod configuration and support for ITS developed applications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience with comprehensive CI/CD platforms such as Gitlab, GitHub, and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience implementing QA tools such as Selenium and Appian.
  • Experience with Windows administration and Powershell.
  • Experience with HTTP server configuration such as IIS, Passenger, Apache, Tomcat.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Applies extensive IS expertise in specific field and has full knowledge of related disciplines. Evaluates new software, systems tools and applications and makes procurement recommendations. Excellent leadership and project management skills. Skilled in analytical techniques, practices and problem solving. Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration. Strong Docker/Kubernetes configuration and administration. Strong Jenkins administration experience. Experience developing, implementing, and training employees on DevOps standards, processes, and tools.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: IT Professional IV / Annual Salary Range: $90,600 - $163,100

NREL takes into consideration a candidates education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employees salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
