Your Responsibilities

As a Sr. Data Scientist for John Deere World Headquarters located in Moline, IL , you will

  • Lead and execute data science projects which drive aftermarket growth and an improved customer experience over the lifetime. Applied techniques are expected to include machine learning, statistical analysis, time series forecasting, optimization, and data visualization. More specifically, you will lead data science projects through the Aftermarket Analytics Delivery Process to:

  • Collaborate with business and analytics stakeholders to investigate business needs, identify opportunities for analytics to provide value, and convert abstract concepts into data science solutions

  • Participate in strategic roadmap planning and assist in defining project proposals and scope

  • Query and manipulate multiple complex machine, dealer, and customer related data sets to prepare data for analysis

  • Work with limited oversight to develop data products such as statistical analyses, models, and dashboards which deliver actionable value to stakeholders

  • Lead project stand-up meetings and lead project teams through code review, validation, and design review activities to ensure and demonstrate high-quality output

  • Communicate results at multiple levels of technical detail to various stakeholders

  • Interact with various business and analytics leaders across the Enterprise to assist initiatives which support the health of the broader analytics function at Deere

  • Coach and review output of other Data Scientists

What Skills You Need

  • 4+ years of experience with a statistical programming language (R, Python or similar)

  • 4+ years of experience writing advanced SQL programming

  • 4+ years of experience creating advanced data visualizations (Shiny, Tableau or similar)

  • Demonstrated ability to apply machine learning and/or advanced modeling techniques to real-world datasets with limited guidance

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate on complex topics, even to non-technical audiences

  • Demonstrated experience identifying innovative opportunities, initiating action, and implementing improvements

  • Demonstrated ability to lead data science projects and project teams

  • Demonstrated ability to make those around you better and contribute actively to a positive team energy and collaborative team culture

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience using Spark

  • Experience using Databricks

  • Experience with demand forecasting using traditional time series methods or other approaches

  • Experience with advanced machine learning algorithms and approaches

  • Experience with machine health or prognostics modeling

  • Knowledge of supply chain and inventory planning concepts

  • Knowledge of dealers, products, customers, markets, and companies in the heavy equipment industry

  • Advanced understanding of dealer channel aftermarket processes, digital solutions, and metrics


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • BS or MS degree or equivalent experience in a related career field
